Supergirl by KidNotorious Supergirl by KidNotorious
I know, I know.
I drew her with the skirt.

If it makes you feel better, she's still wearing a big red shield underneath there.

But really, I just wanted to draw Supergirl.
I drop by Cory Walker's :iconcorenthal: blog [link] A LOT and he has some very inspiring Supergirl designs.
Makes a guy want to draw.

I prefer the red skirt, so nothing wrong there. DC should seriously hire you to do their costume designs because yours are lot better than theirs. This is the costume Kara SHOULD have ended up with in the New 52.

Good job. :)

Coolio.

Mind you, I always imagine she has shorts on under there. I know I would if I could fly and wore a kilt (against tradition, but it's hard to be inspiring when they can see your McDoogles).

I think there could be a alternative to the skirt but I still haven't settled on something... that's not a big red crotch shield.

I'm not so sure. Being a flying character, I think the skirt only adds flair.. and the reason for why it was removed... well, let's just say, I reckon the crotch shield makes it worse rather than better :P

That is, I'm not opposed to alternatives. Supergirl has had some excellent variation costumes over the years. But I think crotch shield is epic fail.. also, knee-less boots :P

I've been a fan of stocky Supergirl ever since Lauren Faust's "Super BFFs" series on CN.
It just makes way too much sense that Kryptonians would have a more bulky, compact build due to the higher gravity of their home planet.

I do like to make Supergirl look a bit "healthy".
For some characters it makes sense for their physicality to represent aspects of their character and not just all the same generic superhero body.
I like the draw Superman with the build of a quarterback, after all he is a farm-boy. The Flash should have the slim build of a Olympic runner and it would be nice for teenage characters to actually look like teenagers.

It is nice seeing some diverse body types in Super BFFs!

I'll admit I don't think I know what her new suit looks like. they change her so often it is hard to keep up.
I do love the skirt you drew. I think this is how I like to remember her suit forever now.

Those clouds look delicious, or I might just be hungry.

I noticed Supergirl here is sort of deformed in proportions/anatomy, did you make it so that way?

I always make my proportions somewhat cartoonish.

This one looks super awesome too. The knees on it look great! Whenever I try to draw realistic knees it ends up looking baggy and awful, but you've really pulled it off. Those sherbet clouds make me want to eat ice cream.

haha. Does seem like an oddly specific thing to be excited about. I guess it's just a feature that most people don't put much effort into.

This actually works well as a female compliment to a Superman design I've been working on in spare seconds here and there for a while. You're picking up on a lot of the same things I was - two-toning the blue to add contrast, pointed cuffs, seams to emphasize shape and add a touch of "alien" without going bananas and distracting from the clear simplicity of design. She looks fantastic.

Traditional is pretty much all I do unless I'm working with a collaborator.
That may change someday but it's the craft that I love.

I really like the clouds you've been doing. Thet make me think if gilded art nouveau jewlery. You would think that wouldn't look right with a super hero drawing, but it works. :)
