Hello Fellow Deviants! I come bearing news that a couple friends of mine and have a new project out called "The Lost Kids". They're also doing an art contest to promote it(with a first prize of $250!), so go check out for more info and be sure to check out the website [link] !
Definitely looks interesting. A concept I daresay every fantasy and sci fi geek has mentally indulged in at some point or another.
Although... I can't help but wonder... the website says something about this magical land being called Samarkand? I wonder if they know there's a children's fantasy book out there by somebody Stroud called The Amulet of Samarkand. Wonder if it's a copyright issue. Hmm.
Hey there, thanks so much for checking out our website and project, glad to see you find it interesting
As for your wonderment above, Samarkand is actually a real city in Uzbekistan, it's actually one of mankind's oldest cities to date. The Samarkand in my fantasy world has a direct link to the real one in our world, so I'm very sure there's no copyright issue there. It would be like two films happening in Paris, with their titles "A Night in Paris" and "From Paris With Love", I'm sure people wouldn't think there's copyright infringement there.
In fact, that series of books could not be more different than the story I'm telling.
And now I feel like a complete idiot, because I actually did know that. I'd heard of the city before, just hadn't remembered. I really shouldn't comment on things after long days at work when my brain is more or less oozing in liquid form out my ears. And I imagine your story will be far better than the book series I had mentioned; read the summary at work today while working in the kid's section, didn't look up to anything like a mortal kombat face-off with your concept. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out. Also, looked through the gallery at the website, and your landscapes are absolutely gorgeous. Did you do those or was that another artist? Either way, they were breathtaking, and definitely a beautiful world my imagination would be just itching to crawl into.
Haha I like the "oozing liquid from out the ears", lol
Totally understandable, you are not the first, and nor will be that last, who will bring up that series. I particularly haven't heard of it until someone brought it to my attention here on DA, so then I went to check out on wikipedia and saw how different the two stories are.
I even had someone tell me Samarkand sounds a lot like Zanarkand from FFX, lol, I'd think so, since they got that name off Samarkand anyway.
I appreciate your support though, and thanks for looking out
I didn't do those, no, they were done by Tony Holmsten, pay his gallery a visit, it's just amazing, here it is
Thanks, my friend, I hope you do enter our world and enjoy the visit!
