If it makes you feel better, she's still wearing a big red shield underneath there.
But really, I just wanted to draw Supergirl. I drop by Cory Walker's blog [link] A LOT and he has some very inspiring Supergirl designs. Makes a guy want to draw.
I prefer the red skirt, so nothing wrong there. DC should seriously hire you to do their costume designs because yours are lot better than theirs. This is the costume Kara SHOULD have ended up with in the New 52.
Mind you, I always imagine she has shorts on under there. I know I would if I could fly and wore a kilt (against tradition, but it's hard to be inspiring when they can see your McDoogles).
I'm not so sure. Being a flying character, I think the skirt only adds flair.. and the reason for why it was removed... well, let's just say, I reckon the crotch shield makes it worse rather than better
That is, I'm not opposed to alternatives. Supergirl has had some excellent variation costumes over the years. But I think crotch shield is epic fail.. also, knee-less boots
I've been a fan of stocky Supergirl ever since Lauren Faust's "Super BFFs" series on CN. It just makes way too much sense that Kryptonians would have a more bulky, compact build due to the higher gravity of their home planet.
I do like to make Supergirl look a bit "healthy". For some characters it makes sense for their physicality to represent aspects of their character and not just all the same generic superhero body. I like the draw Superman with the build of a quarterback, after all he is a farm-boy. The Flash should have the slim build of a Olympic runner and it would be nice for teenage characters to actually look like teenagers.
It is nice seeing some diverse body types in Super BFFs!
Good job.

Great pic!
