Hello Fellow Deviants,

Looks like a good number of comic book related events are happening in my home town of Las Vegas, so I might as well use that as an excuse to write a new journal.

The Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con is the latest addition to the cities events. Brought to you by the same fine people that bring you the Amazing Arizona Comic-Con.
Stan Lee has just joined the line-up of guest along with Jim Lee :iconjimlee00: Greg Capullo :iconthegregcapullo: Skottie Young :iconskottieyoung: Ryan Stegman :iconryanstegman: and many more.

Later in the year there will be another round of the Las Vegas Comic Expo on SEPTEMBER 28-29, and Vegas Valley Comic Book Fest on November 2.

In the more immediate future, the Artist Comic Collective of Las Vegas will be sketching for the masses in the different comic shops around town.

I know I'm probably missing a ton of stuff, but it's nice to see that there's finally a good handful of things for the comic community to do in this town.

Charles, saw some of your art featured in Major Spoilers back around last week of March! Been away from deviantart for a few months, but had to stop by and let you know.
Will you be at Comic Oasis for FCBD?Are you going to be at the comic convention in June over at South Point? I just got the news about that one.

Oh yeah, I just took a look at the Major Spoilers feature a couple of days ago. It was good to hear my Little Big Heads could brighten up someones day.

I'm afraid that I won't be joining in on the Comic Oasis fun this year, but it sounds like the guys from the Artists Comic Collective will be spread out at the different shops. Comic Oasis, Cheeseboy, Alternate Reality, Avatar and Cosmic Comics will all have two or three artists from the ACC sketching from 10am to 2pm from what I've read.

As for the Amazing Las Vegas Comic-Con, I don't think I'll be attending that one either. I'm sure it's going to be a good show, I've heard nothing but positive things from the Amazing Arizona con.
It just may be a little while before I start joining in on the comic events again, but I'm certainly glad that there's much more for the comic community to do in this town nowadays.

I live close to South Point but I am not sure I can make it out to the Amazing LVCC all 3-days myself. Striving for maybe a one-day thing.

I can't go to most of these events either but yeah, its nice that there are more comicbook events in town than before.

As for FCBD, Cheeseboy is closest to me but I'd like to check out the Maximum Comics on Ft Apache. Would like to visit Oasis as well, time willing.

Hope you are able to attend and also participate in a few future events.

gonna mention you in my core review on friday (we have to have a list of people who inspire us). I'll be mentioning you for your use of markers....

speaking of which, i've been trying to figure out the best way to explain to my illustration professor that markers are a professional medium. any suggestions?

ps. core review is an art review i have to pass to continue being an art major at my school.

Whoa! That's unbelievably flattering!

Let's see what I can do to help you here.
I've found that when you say "markers" the first thing that comes to minds of many people are the crayola markers we might play with as kids or the sharpies you find in any office. The markers such as Copics or Prisma are frequently used by car designers and fashion designers all the way to illustrators, cartoonist and comic artist.

Guys like Mahmud Asrar :iconmahmudasrar: used markers in his work on Supergirl to give a more organic look to the images he would later add digital color to. Guys like Adam Hughes :iconadamhughes: and David Williams :iconbrohawk: have been know to do the same.
Chris Stevens :iconchristopherstevens: uses markers better than anyone I know, and in his current journal he gives a rundown of the tools he uses [link] .
And then there are guys like me. I may be one of the most infrequent dabblers in whats considered to be a profession. It always surprises me when someone refers to what I do as a profession, drawing is what I love to do so I always consider this to be a hobby that can earn a little pocket change from time to time, but I suppose once paperwork is involved it becomes "professional".

I use markers in the majority of pieces that I want to color myself in a traditional media. It allows a clean and vibrant look and is easier to control than most paints that would offer similar results.
I and many others use markers in my sketch card works because it one of the only things that will offer a vibrant color without destroying the cards.
And it also mixes well with other media such as pencil, watercolor and even acrylic. It may sound odd at first but a capable hand can make magic with any medium.

All in all it's just another form of traditional media. I
